The two are very different. It is a matter of preference. Tales of Pirates is a video game (an MMORPG) with online role-playing capabilities, a game that has goals and advancement, tasks to do, etc. Second Life is not a game at all, it is a virtual world in which you simply exist. You do not have to "level up" or advance your avatar, nor do you have to do any quests or tasks. You simply roam around and do whatever floats your boat (which by the way, can be a pirate boat!)
