You don't actually command Mir...
You open up the skill box with "K" and put a skill point in Magic Missile, then you can attack and kill 30 pigs easily.
Watch out for the wand that appears somewhere when Mir activates, pick it up and use it when you want Mir to throw MM or Fire. Otherwise you've got a treasure hunt before you till you can afford one.
Mir is a magical creature, you also must use a wand or other magical weapon for communicating your wishes.
