The texture of the times has to be understood to see how the Supreme Court would keep the status quo with regard to slaves. Slavery it must be remembered had been a part of colonial life back into the times of Jamestown. Even anti slavery abolitionists ( many did ) believed that slaves needed to be freed but not to be looked on as equals. Many free States had laws preventing freed slaves to vote or hold any public offices.

The Abolitionist lobby was outraged, because it appeared to make slavery legal in every state of the Union. Most other Northerners were not so concerned about slavery itself, only that the various Compromises that they had worked so hard on were all declared void, and that the argument would be re-opened.
Slaves tried to escape so that they could obtain their freedom. They were treated poorly and worked very hard and many tried to escape to become free men and women.
The Civil War resulted in the passing of the 13th Amendment (December 1865), banning slavery throughout the USA, so the Dred Scott verdict of 1857, and the whole controversy over what the Founding Fathers thought about slavery, became academic.
She led so many slaves to freedom that she became known as the Moses of her people.
dred scott attempted to leave the state he lived in which was a slave state and moved to a free slave so he can be "free" but slave is property and cannot be free ,
the dred scott case consists of great signifigance for many reasons. basically what happened was dred scotts master had said "once i die, you are all free" and so, once dred's master had passed on, he left the plantion thinking that he was now a free man. However, someone had found him, and turned him over to a judge as a a run away slave. Dred had explained to the judge what had happened, and that he was not breaking any laws, for he was now a free man. Dred demanded for rights. however, the judge had told him, "you are a slave. you have no rights" thus, he was forced back into slavery. so, the signifigance of this case is basically, that because of discrimination, a man who should have been free and who had served his sentance as a slave, was forced back into slavery all because of the color of his skin.
The Dred Scott case of 1857 maintained the southern thinking that, as a slave, Dred Scott was no more than property. He was not entitled to citizenship, nor the right to sue.
Dred and Harriet Scott were the couple who sued for their freedom in 1854. Their case, known as the Dred Scott v. Sandford case, reached the Supreme Court in 1857, but unfortunately, the Court ruled against them, further entrenching slavery in the United States.
Since the court found against him, the case had no immediate effect. A few years later however he and his family were manumitted.
Dred Scott was a slave who tried to sue for his freedom in the famous Dred Scott v. Sandford case in 1857. The Supreme Court ruled against him, stating that as a black person, he was not entitled to citizenship and therefore could not sue in a federal court. The decision further exacerbated tensions between pro-slavery and anti-slavery factions in the United States.
Dred Scott was a slave who was taken into free states where he sued to gain his freedom. The U. S. Supreme Court held that blacks did not have citizenship and could not sue in federal court. The decision led to outrage among abolitionists in the north. It was important because it was a factor of the Civil War.
Dred Scott went to court twice for his landmark legal battle. He initially sued for his freedom in 1846 in Missouri state court, but later appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court, where the case was heard in 1856 and decided in 1857.
Well, honey, the Dred Scott case was a hot mess. It ended with the Supreme Court ruling that Dred Scott, a slave, couldn't sue for his freedom because he was considered property. And as for the Missouri Compromise, that bad boy got thrown out the window like yesterday's trash because the court said Congress couldn't ban slavery in the territories. So, in short, Dred Scott stayed a slave and the Compromise got a one-way ticket to the history books.
it's when times were hard,so probably sensational
There is little information available regarding Dred Scott's family background, so it is not definitively known whether he had siblings or not.
