Most of the southern states agreed that if a republican were to be elected, in this case Abraham Lincoln, that they would all secede from the U.S. and form the confederate states of America. The Texans were people who viewed other people as property just because of the color of their skin. To this day, some people defend slavery because it was "good for the economy"
