He was chosen because the people knew he was a strong leader. They wanted him to be their president because he was a general of their army. The people knew that he would be able to protect them. George Washington was popular, that's why he was chosen.

He was very well spoken, and had endured many hardships as a leader of the continental army. He had great endurance and charisma.

because he was hot! <3 :p

George Washington (war commander and prominent Virginia statesman) was elected unopposed as the first President of the United States Of America after the ratifying of the US Constitution in 1788.

However the American Colonies formed a government separate from the King of England as of 1774, with the formation of the Continental Congress in 1774 and the adopting the Articles of Confederation in 1781. The "United Colonies of America" had fourteen presidents from October 1774 to March 1788.

Most of these "Presidents of America" served one year terms from Nov. to Nov.

little could be accomplished by each man with a one year term, the distraction of a revolutionary war and the fact that the new country was completely broke borrowing money.
