This is due to decimalisation. The first decimal coins were introduced in 1968.

The breakdown of currency that phased out around that time had 12 pennies to the shilling, and 20 shillings to the pound. The new 5 pence and 10 pence coins introduced in 1968 held the values of 1 shilling and 2 shillings respectively, resulting in 100 pence to the pound rather than 240.

The value of a penny therefore increased at this time.

Why are 1968 pennies are worth more than 1967 pennies?

If you are talking about US coins. They aren't. Both are worth face value unless in a mint set or completely flawless (it won't be completely flawless if you find it in your pocket change!).

Why are 1967 pennies worth more than 1966 pennies?

Because there are no 1967 pennies. Decimal currency started in 1966.Actually, 1966 pennies should be worth more than 1967 pennies as a 1967 penny would be a fake.CorrectionThis question was posted in US Coins so it refers to US 1-cent pieces by their slang name. It's actually a rather lame joke. The answer is (ba DING!) "1,967 pennies are worth $19.67 which is one cent more than $19.66"

Is 25 723 dimes worth more than 231 524 pennies?

To determine which is worth more, we need to calculate the total value of each set of coins. 25,723 dimes would be worth 25,723 * $0.10 = $2,572.30. 231,524 pennies would be worth 231,524 * $0.01 = $2,315.24. Therefore, 25,723 dimes are worth more than 231,524 pennies.
