because of a boat and a note. The boat was the Lusitania, which was sunk by German U-boats
In the Great War, American public opinion turned against Germany following persistent attacks by submarines on merchant shipping. The most notorious sinking was that of the passenger steamer RMS Lusitania on 7 May 1915 when 1198 out of 1959 passengers and crew were killed. The RMS Lusitania was a British ocean liner, and was was torpedoed and sunk by a German U-boat.
The death of Americans that were passengers aboard the British ship Lusitania when it was sunk by a German submarine.
Germany had sunk the Lusitania, which was a British liner carrying 128 American citizens, who all died. They also sunk many other merchant ships. Then Germany attempted to get Mexico to turn on the United States by sending them the Zimmerman note. This note was intercepted and sent to the U.S. The U.S. got increasingly angry at Germany, and President Woodrow Wilson asked for a declaration of war against Germany from Congress.
Because when the Lusitania was sunk with 200 Americans on board, President Wilson finally declared war on Germany. The Zimmerman note was also a reason the USA. went to war.
