1834 bust-type halves are about average in scarcity for that design. As of 6/2012Very worn: $40Moderately worn: $65Nearly new: $275DanUser:WorkingMan
Please check that date again. There were no silver certificates before 1878. Perhaps your bill is from 1934.
Your 1834 five Cent coin is called a 'HalfDime' it is .900 silver and its value dependent upon details and condition, anywhere from a couple dollars to thousands.
The U.S. did not make any silver dollars from 1804 to 1835 inclusive. There has been a flood of counterfeit dollar coins on the market over the last couple of decades, some good, but many with significant goofs in date and/or design. If you have an "1834 dollar" it is one of the latter, I'm afraid.

There were no US silver dollars minted for circulation between 1804 and 1835 inclusive. Please check your coin again and post a new question. If the denomination is in fact $1 and the date is 1834 it's likely that you have one of the many counterfeit pieces that have been made in the Far East during the last few decades. If the date is worn and is actually 1884 you have what's called a Morgan dollar.
