A 1957 nickel is worth face value only, unless it's uncirculated or a proof coin.
In average condition, both coins are only worth their face value.
That wasn't something done at the mint, rather the cent was likely plated with zinc or nickel. So it has little to no collector value. The US government has never struck a penny in silver.

Check that coin again. The first U.S. nickel was issued in 1866.
All circulation-strike quarters dated 1965 and later are made of copper-nickel, not silver. There are no major varieties among 1972 quarters, so anything that you find in change will only be worth 25¢.
