The world found out fairly quickly that the 13 Colonies of the British Empire had broken away and formed a new nation. Word spread that there were jobs and a chance for wealth in this new country called the United States. As the 19th century unfolded, and especially at the conclusion of the US Civil War, the US railways were expanding. Being in the railroad business was a lucrative enterprise and rolling forward.
Jobs were to be had in building the US railway system. The Federal government was very generous in either selling or leasing Federal territory to the railways.
The owners found the Chinese people to be good workers and the labor was inexpensive.
Basically it was the chance for Chinese people to find work and hopefully advance themselves in a better degree of wealth than they had in China.
