∙ 13y agoThe back of a United States quarter used to be an eagle. Now there are 50 additional backs, as each state has a specific quarter dedicated to it.
That's a Kansas state quarter, and it's worth 25 cents.
It depends on the quarter. From 1932-1964 silver quarters had the familiar Washington eagle design on the back, just like clad quarters up until the state quarter series. The Standing Liberty quarters depict an Eagle in flight, the barber quarter has a heraldic eagle on the reverse and earlier coins usually have something stating that it is a quarter of a dollar.
It's just a state quarter that has been gold plated and it has no collectible value at all, unless you find someone that wants it.
The first US quarter dollars were minted in 1796. If your quarter has a picture of George Washington on one side, 1788 near the top of the other side, and it looks new, that's because it IS new. You have a State Quarter with two dates on it. 1788 is the date that the state was admitted to the Union, NOT the date the coin was minted! The minting date is at the bottom of the design on the back side. Nearly all State Quarters found in circulation have no extra value. I recently was shopping and received a Hawaii State Quarter that has a flaw on the back. It is an indent in the back and goes through the words of the Hawii saying on it.

California uses the same coins as the rest of the states, with Lincoln on the penny and Washington on the quarter. The California state quarter has John Muir on the back.
The State Quarter series wasn't introduced until 1999, so before that all quarters featured an eagle on the back. The State series ran up through 2008, featuring five different designs per year, in order of when each state became a state (Delaware was first, Hawaii was last). In 2009, there were six different designs, featuring Washington DC and five U.S. territories.
