So - if rhoticity is the criterion, the hillbilly accent could have had some input from any or all of the Celtic countries. Breton speakers could also have had an input into Cajun. Certainly the Southern States had many settlers from all the Celtic countries, as indeed did the Northern States and Canada. There were many Cornish Forty Niners in the Yukon Gold Rush, for example. It may be that historical linguistic research on the hillbilly dialects and other Southern dialects exists.
