When states decided to grow more cotton they needed more slaves to harvest it. This meant that the number of slave held captive went up.
The slaves were sold in the South states of the U.S.A to work in the cotton fields.

The cotton Kingdom is a cotton-producing region of the southern United States up until the Civil War.
There are 14 states that really grow cotton. They are: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia. Some cotton is also grown in Florida, Kansas and New Mexico.

The Cotton Belt refers to the southern region of the United States where cotton production was historically concentrated. States in the Cotton Belt include parts of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina.

Cotton is a natural material- it is part of the cotton plant that is spun (twisted) into thread. Cotton is not an invention in the sense that nylon is. Nylon is a man made fiber, but cotton (and wool and linen) are natural materials- grown, not made.
It made cotton production in the US more profitable, and ended up increasing the market for slaves. This drove up the value of slaves and ended up in more slavery.
