The United States had it's Civial war over the debate of slavery. The nation was split in two the Pro Slavery and Anti Slavery. The North And The South or the Union and The Confederates.
The two main reasons were the same as for the Revolutionary War: Taxation without representation and States'(colonies') rights. Slavery was # 4 or 5 on the list and not a major reason.
The Southern States wanted to secede from the North just like the 13 colonies seceded from the British in 1776, no difference.
