There were 5 such types coins, all special-minted Commemoratives. First, Booker T Washington, on a Half Dollar, Minted from 1946 through 1951. Then, both Booker T Washington and George Washington Carver, together, on a Half Dollar Minted from 1951 through 1954. In 1997, two coins, one silver and one gold, were struck commemorating Jackie Robinson. Finally, Crispus Attucus, on a One Dollar coin in 1998. I am not certain if this counts, but on the face of the 2007 Commemorative Dollar honoring Jamestown settlement shows a European explorer, a Native American, and in the background, a man who appears to have an African look.
ETA- The 2009 Washington, D.C. District of Columbia and U.S. Territories quarter features Duke Ellington on the reverse side. This is an actual circulated coin, rather than a limited commemorative. Another recent commemorative honoring African Americans recognized black Revolutionary War patriots. The obverse features Crispus Attucks, 1723-1770. The reverse shows a black family with the man holding a musket and wearing a military uniform. A total of 32,210 silver dollars were minted in Philadelphia in 1998. In 2007, the Mint marked the 50th anniversary of the desegregation of Central High School in Little Rock, Ark., with uncirculated and proof versions of a commemorative silver dollar. This "headless" coin actually depicts the feet of the courageous Little Rock Nine as they are escorted to school by members of the National Guard. But the first US coin featuring a black American in any capacity is probably the 1907 $20 gold piece. The model for the figure of Lady Liberty was Hettie Anderson, an artists model of African-American descent.
