The initial cause of the fire was never determined with certainty. It is known that the fire began in a bin of scrap cloth. It was thought that a cigarette but may have been thrown into the bin and ignited the scraps.

the triangle shortwaist factory fire was in a time when doors were locked to prevent people from taking breaks and doing other things other than working. place caught on fire and the people couldn't get out. when taken to court had to pay 75$ for each deceased. insurance company covered that plus gave the owners 60,000$ extra. taken to court again for locking the door that killed them all... 20$ for that fine
