The first people to come to America were the First Nations people. There are differing theories on how they came to be there - they claim they have always been there, while many scientists believe they crossed a land bridge where the Bering Strait now is. If this happened, it happened about 20 000 years ago, and occured because the First Nations were following game across the strait.The first European was Leif Eriksson, who first landed in Newfoundland around 1000 C.E. He started a colony there called Vinland, but they were soon wiped out by the First Nations. The reasons they explored North America aren't really known, but most Vikings had a love of the sea, and of exploring. It was likely that which drove Leif.The first Americans came to America due to freedom of religion, freedom to assemble, and freedom to assemble. This is what eventually led to what is the free country, because they had freedoms here which didn't exist where they previously came.
