It was one of the three acts in new york history that protested against Britain because the colonists who were originally from Britain ventured out to the New world now known as the US. They were angry at Britain for the unfair taxes made by the British king to pay for weapons and wars. Britain imposed three taxes on the colonists. The colonists protested and that made the king mad after the three taxes were turned down by the colonists and that is what started the American Revolution which we won after years of fighting finally got our freedom from Britain. That is why we today have a president and not mo narcs (royal kings queens etc).
The Stamp Act of 1765. The Stamp Act was passed by the British Parliament on March 22, 1765. The new tax was imposed on all American colonists and required them to pay a tax on every piece of printed paper they used. Ship's papers, legal documents, licenses, newspapers, other publications, and even playing cards were taxed. The money collected by the Stamp Act was to be used to help pay the costs of defending and protecting the American frontier near the Appalachian Mountains (10,000 troops were to be stationed on the American frontier for this purpose). The actual cost of the Stamp Act was relatively small. What made the law so offensive to the colonists was not so much its immediate cost but the standard it seemed to set. The Stamp act Boycott happened because lots of the colonists were mad to pay a dumb tax on something that most of the time they could get for free.
The Congress seemed at first to be an abject failure. In the first place, only nine of the colonies sent delegates. Georgia, North Carolina, New Hampshire, and the all-important Virginia were not present. The Congress became quickly divided between radicals and moderates. The moderates would hold sway at this time. Only an extreme few believed in stronger measures against Britain than articulating the principle of no taxation without representation. This became the spirit of the STAMP ACT RESOLVES. The Congress humbly acknowledged Parliament's right to make laws in the colonies. Only the issue of taxation was disputed.
because every paper you had bought cost you about one pence and the colonist always used paper
the name of this Act was the Sugar Act which taxed the colonists for the first time
The Stamp Act infuriated the American colonists. It imposed a tax on most paper documents and was seen as another example of taxation without representation.
british made the colonist pay a tax on molases and sugar ,but the colonist were angered.therefore, colonist convinced all 12 colonies except one to stop buying tea from the british, leading up to the stamp act of 1765.
The Stamp Act was created in 1765, mandated the use fo stamped paper or the affixing of stamps, certify payment of tax. On the day in 1765 when the new act was to go into effect, the stamp agents had all been forced to resign, and there was noone to sell the stamps. After a stormy debate, Parliament in 1766 grudgingly repealed the Stamp Act.
