The Columbia Exchange was a result of Christopher Columbus arriving in the New World and setting up commerce. The crops from the Americas (e.g. corn, potatoes) were exported from the New World, which would therefore let them be traded to different parts of the world like Africa or Asia. However, some of the crops reached Europe late (tomatoes were introduced to Italy on October 31, 1548). The Columbia Exchange can be considered to be an early form of globalization.
