Canada East believed that joining the confederation would end up being a financial burden. The people were unable to see how it would benefit them, and felt the extra taxes would also present a problem.
Wrong. First, Ontario did not exist as such until Confederation. Second, that part of the Province of Canada which had formerly been Upper Canada (and which formed the basis of today's Ontario) had the most to gain from Confederation and was the strongest supporter of Confederation. Third, although all provinces have benefited from Confederation, it is probably fair to say that Ontario has benefited the most from Confederation.
They did not want to have slavery in the western parts of Virginia, so these western counties broke off to form another state so they could let Virginia join the confederacy and they join the Union
The Northern slave-states of Kentucky and Missouri.
Texas did not want to join the union of the United States. In 1845 when Texas joined the union, it was due to mismanaged finances, and the refusal of the people that were settling in Texas (which used to be a part of Mexico) to abolish slavery.
it was scared from usa
Why indeed? The majority of Nova Scotians did not want to join which was made very clear when they elected representatives wanting Nova Scotia to leave Confederation.
Sir Charles Tupper wanted Confederation, for he thought that the railway was needed in Nova Scotia in order to make Nova Scotia's economy prosper. He thought Confederation would let Nova Scotia continue to live. PEACE.
Nova Scotia didn't want to join Confederation because... 1. Nova Scotia was already a fine self governing colony; which was at the time trying to get the Queen to allow them to leave the Canadian Confederation and join with the United States. 2. They knew that with the small population that they wouldn't have enough power in Canada. (The only provinces that really pass bills in Canada are Quebec and Ontario).
Sir Adams George Archibald agreed with Charles Tupper that confederation would improve Nova Scotia's economy. I think.
they were far from other provinces so they wont have much of trade with others
they joined confederation because they were promised a railroad from nova scotia through to canada west....they would get extra defense from the other province....since america just stopped free trade theyd be able to trade with the other colonies....nova scotia was totally for confederation
Many great Canadians wanted Confederation. For Canada West (Ontario) George Brown and John .A. Mcdonald led them to Confederation. For Canada East (Quebec) George Cartier led them. Nova Scotia was led by Charles Tupper. New Brunswick was led by Leonard Tilley. They were the 1st 4 provinces to join confederation. PEI and Newfoundland did not want to join. Newfoundland was the last to join in 1949.
No, they did not want to join Confederation. However, John Hamilton Gray, of PEI, was in favour.
you can fly it whenever you want, and it is flown at half mast when someone passes away
As a guess, confederation happened at the last conference, the London conference, on 1867.At that time only four provinces joined - *Canada East, *Canada West, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. At the second Conference which was the Quebec Conference. Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland didn't want to join Confederation. Canada East - Quebec \ Canada East and Canada West were called the United Provinces of Canada in 1841 Canada West- Ontario /
Sidney Crosby did not go to University, so he didn't graduate. But, if you want to know which High School he went to, he went in Nova Scotia. ....... he went to shattuck St marys in Minnesota...
