He started his first job in Oct 1773 at the schoolhouse in East Haddam at the lower landing. He was bored to tear so within two months he started looking for a new job.
He left for his new teaching job in Mar 1774 at the Union School in New London. This was a brand new school in the city. He taught up to 32 students in the two floor building. He left this job in July 1775 to join the army as a 1st Lt.
