"FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - From the Office of the White House Press Secretary, Sept 11th, 1969: The President today awarded the Presidential Unit Citation to the 1st Mobile Communications Group, United States Air Force, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force in Southeast Asia from January 1st, 1967, to February 15, 1968.
The citation credited the members of the group with establishing air control facilities andproviding combat communications throughout Southeast Asia. Communications services provided by members of the group, despite hazardous combat conditions, contributed significantly to the success of major military operations."
The citation follows:
"By virtue of the authority vested in me as President of the United States and as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the United States, I have today awarded The Presidential Unit Citation (Air Force) for extraordinary heroism to the 1st Mobile Communications Group, United States Air Force. The 1st Mobile Communications Group, Air Force Communications Service, distinguished itself by extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force in Southeast Asia, from 1 January 1967 to 16 February 1968. During this period, the exemplary courage, professionalism, and dedication to mission accomplishment by members of the 1st Mobile Communications Group contributed significantly to the success oof major military operations, containment of the enemy, and the saving of countless American and allied lives. The personnel of this group have consistently braved intense and accurate hostile fire to install and maintain vitally needed combat communications and air control facilities throughout Southeast Asia. Their determination and esprit de corps in establishing facilities and providing communication and navigational aid support under adverse and hazardous conditions embellish the highest traditions of our fighter forces. By their professional skill, dedication to duty, and extraordinary heroism, members of the 1st Mobile Communication Group have upheld the highest standards of performance and traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon themselves and the Armed Forces of the United States."
