Why did Osama bin Laden not like the US?

Osama bin Laden believed that there was a vast conflict between Islam and the non-Islamic, particularly Christian and Jewish people or nations. The US is a nation that respects freedom of religion and which does not legally interfere with anyone's religious choices, however, it is a predominantly Christian nation, and it is seen as an obstacle to the continued growth and influence of Islam. Perhaps the greatest crime of the US, from the viewpoint of Islamic militants such as the late bin Laden, is that the US has since 1948 been a supporter of the state of Israel, a nation which would have been destroyed long ago without US support. And Israel is very offensive to Islam, being a Jewish nation that occupies sites that are holy to Islam (of course, it also contains sites that are holy to Judaism and to Christianity, but that doesn't matter to Musim militants).
