∙ 14y agoApproximately 35-40% of crimes are solved using DNA evidence. DNA technology has significantly improved the accuracy and success rate of solving crimes, especially in cases where biological evidence is left at a crime scene.

A cold case is a police investigation that was previously unsolvable, not enough evidence or what ever at the time of the initial investigation. The case went "cold". Cold cases are investigated later in hopes of breaking the case. The TV shows about cold cases are shows about old unsolved police cases that still need to be solved.
Millions, even cases with good physical/forensic evidence contain some circumstantial evidence and millions of cases are tried daily throughout the world based on circumstantial evidence only.
Of the crimes committed last year, 68,151 were solved, bringing the solution efficiency to 88.79%, down from the prior year's 90%. A solved case "is one which the principal suspect(s) has been identified and properly charged in court or before the prosecutor's office."
Some psychics have helped solve murder cases on some programs but there is no mention of sensing murder solving cases.
