Gerald Ford (July 14, 1913 - December 26, 2006) was the 38th US President. He was born Leslie Lynch King, Jr., but took the name Ford after his step-father.
He represented the state of Michigan in the House of Representatives for 12 consecutive terms, winning over 60% of the vote each time. He served five terms as the Republican minority leader. He was appointed to the Warren commission by Lyndon Johnson.
He was appointed to the office of Vice-President by Richard Nixon in 1973 when VP Agnew resigned. Soon Nixon also resigned due to the Watergate scandal and Ford became President. His most notable act as President was probabaly his pardon of Richard Nixon. He ran for a term of his own in 1976, but lost to Jimmy Carter. He was the oldest ex-President ever when he died in 2006.
