Constitutional rights provide individual citizens with protections and liberties that cannot be easily taken away by the government. These rights allow citizens to express their opinions, practice their religion, bear arms, and enjoy other freedoms without fear of government interference. Constitutional rights also provide citizens with due process and equal protection under the law, ensuring fairness and justice in the legal system.

In speaking about the US Constitution, the amendments in the Bill of Rights were meant to guarantee that the Federal government did nothing to subvert the rights of citizens and of the US States.
Gays already have constitutional rights. They are fighting for equal rights.

A strict definition of constitutional rights are those rights of an individual within a society that are protected by the society as a whole on behalf of all of its citizens.
