Merchant navy is a fleet of commercial shipping , where there is no involvement of military services. It is backbone of international trade, i.e. transporting goods from one country to another( exports & imports).

Indian navy is the naval branch of Indian Armed force. It comes under defense services. And its primary job is to safeguard nations maritime borders.
