So you're learning about the Stock Market like me and you see that there is an after hours quote. Are they still working after the bell? Brown-nosers! Well here's the big picture from what I just read. There are stock markets all over the world. Some have crazy people yelling and some are just computer programs. Unless you are there when the crazy people are (in whatever country you are trading) the stock price quote could be different depending on whose computer system you are trading on. If you want to make a buy at that price, someone else has to want to sell at that price. You knew that already but usually the crazy people are right there to make the deal. On the computer you might wait awhile or all night. This kind of thing wasn't even available to you and me as individuals until 1999.
