The AMA is not a single party supporter. In other words, they support whichever party supports their ideas. The AMA traditionally has been a politically conservative organization, opposing national health insurance in 1948, and resisting Medicare in 1966. But, in a turn, it supported the Affordable Care Act, angering a core segment of supporters. This has led to a declining of supporters. The AMA has had no choice but to become more politically moderate or risk the continued decline of membership.
