The Kentucky Resolutions of 1798 used the theory of nullification to fight against the Alien and Sedition Acts. The Virginia and Kentucky Resolutions had two main ideas. First, that the Alien and Sedition Acts adopted by the federal government were unconstitutional. Second, that it was unconstitutional for the U.S. Congress to adopt any act not explicitly authorized in the constitution.
