Some challenges George Washington faced as the nation's first president were:
1. The British army, especially their vicious mercenary soldiers, the Hessians.
2. Lack of replacement clothing and shoes. Many in his army marched for miles and miles in bare feet and little more than rags on their bodies.
3. Dimwit generals.
4. General who thought that THEY should be in charge.
5. Generals who simply surrended without fighting.
6. Enlisting new soldiers when the veterans went home.
7. Not having nearly enough soldiers.
8. The dimwits in Congress, who failed to realize Washington's precarious position.
9. The winter cold, especially when camped at Valley Forge.
10. The inability to communicate quickly with his outlying army groups.
