Some challenges George Washington faced as the nation's first president were:

  • Opposing views of other cabinet members who didn't agree with some of his ideas, by accepting bribes from other countries because they stood against Washington and his views as well.
  • Bickering between Hamilton and Jefferson on things like taxing the farmers and those who grew grapes for wine and other spirits.
  • Washington's trying to keep the U.S. 'united' because of the 'plans' that England and other countries had for the nation at that time.

3. Dimwit generals.

4. General who thought that THEY should be in charge.

5. Generals who simply surrended without fighting.

6. Enlisting new soldiers when the veterans went home.

7. Not having nearly enough soldiers.

8. The dimwits in Congress, who failed to realize Washington's precarious position.

9. The winter cold, especially when camped at Valley Forge.

10. The inability to communicate quickly with his outlying army groups.
