John Foster Dulles was the Secretary of State under President Dwight Eisenhower. He was instrumental in forming the Southeast Asia Treaty Organization (SEATO). His brother, uncle and grandfather were also secretaries of state. When the Korean War started, Dean Acheson was Secretary of State. When Dwight Eisenhower was elected in 1952, he appointed John Foster Dulles to the position.
