What year did Teddy Roosevelt invent the word teddy bear?

He didn't invent it. Teddy Roosevelt went hunting in Mississippi. After several days of bad luck, the locals did not want Roosevelt to go home empty-handed, so they captured a bear, tied it to a tree, and told Teddy Roosevelt to kill it. Roosevelt thought it was unfair, refused to shoot it, and let it go. The incident was captured in an editorial cartoon by Clifford Berryman, "Drawing the Line in Mississippi." A toy maker named Morris Mitchtom found out about that and named his stuffed bear "Teddy's bear" as a marketing ploy. That was the year 1902. The toy was successful. Mitchtom later went on to found the Ideal Toy Company.
