You don't. You headspace AND time the gun, because the timing changes with headspace and the headspace changes every time you change the barrel.

This is from the Picatinny Arsenal:

To headspace the weapon:

1. Raise the cover all the way up and retract the bolt.

2. Screw the barrel all the way into the gun, then back off two clicks. (To tell ya the truth, this is where most guys stop when they're in Indian Country.)

3. Charge the weapon and ride the bolt forward. Don't let it slam home; since the gun isn't loaded, if you do that you'll damage the bolt.

4. Retract the bolt about 1/16" and hold it there until you've used the gage.

5. Raise the cartridge extractor, push in the alignment guide and try to put the "go" end of the headspace gage in the slot between the face of the bolt and the rear of the barrel. There's a ring on it. If you can get the gage to go in all the way down to the ring, pull it out, turn it around and try to put the "no go" end in the same place. If the "go" gage went in and the "no go" gage didn't, you're done. If the "go" gage didn't go in, unscrew the barrel one click and try it again. If the "no go" gage went in, screw the barrel in one click. Keep doing this until the go gage goes in and the no go gage doesn't.

To time the gun:

1. Set the headspace.

2. Raise the cover, charge the weapon and ride the bolt forward.

3. Retract the bolt far enough to put the "fire" gage in. It goes between the front of the bolt and the back of the barrel, with the beveled edge against the barrel notches.

4. Remove the backplate and screw the timing adjustment nut down all the way. Don't take it off the timing stud, though.

(This is where timing this thing gets tedious...)

5. Retract the bolt far enough to remove the fire gage. Reinstall the backplate, retract the bolt, stick the fire gage in and try to fire the gun. It shouldn't fire.

6. Take the gage out, remove the backplate, screw the timing nut in one notch, put the backplate back on, the gage back in and try to fire the gun. Keep repeating step 6 until the gun fires.

7. Remove the gage, remove the backplate, screw the nut in two more clicks and put the backplate back on. Charge the weapon and ride the bolt forward. Insert the "no fire" end of the gage and try to fire. It shouldn't fire. If it does the gun has to go to the shop. If it DOESN'T fire, turn the gage back around and try to fire again. If it won't fire with the "no fire" gage in and will with the "fire" gage in, you're done.

To headspace a Browning M2HB machine gun, follow these steps:

  1. Ensure the gun is unloaded and the bolt is in the forward position.
  2. Use a headspace gauge to check the headspace. Insert the gauge into the chamber and ensure it fits properly.
  3. If the gauge does not fit, adjust the headspace by either adding or removing shims from the barrel extension until the gauge fits correctly.
  4. Repeat the process until the proper headspace is achieved. Proper headspace ensures safe operation and reliable function of the firearm.

What is the lightest .50 caliber machine gun?

The lightest machine gun of the 12.7x99mm or .50 BMG calibre is the XM312 Machine Gun. It is a still a tripod mounted weapon, weighing a good 19 kilos while mounted on a tripod. This is an extremely low weight in comparison to the 58 kilogram predecessor of the XM312, the M2HB/M3 tripod. LW50MG, as it will be known in the US Army, is based on the XM307 25mm Grenade Machine Gun, giving it roughly half the rate of fire of a standard M2HB.

The M2 Machine Gun, Browning .50 Caliber Machine Gun, is a heavy-machine-gundesigned towards the end of world-war-iby john-browning. It is very similar in design to Browning's earlier m1919-browning-machine-gun, which was chambered for the 30-06-springfieldcartridge. The M2 uses the larger and more powerful 50-bmgcartridge, which was named for the gun itself (BMG standing for Browning Machine Gun). What ordnance used on me109g German aircraft?

The Bf-109G came with various armaments. The early models came with a pair of 7.92mm machine guns firing over the engine as well as a pair of 20mm cannons in the wing and a 30mm cannon firing through the propellor hub. The later models had the 7.62mm machine guns replaced with MG-131 13mm machine guns, roughly equivalent to the US Browning M2HB .50 caliber machine guns. The 20mm cannons were often deleted as they tended to jam during tight manuvers.

What weapons did the marines use in WW2?

This list represents the weapons used by all the forces in World War 2. The Marines used the Browning BAR, the M1 Garand or Carbine depending on whether they fought in the Pacific or Europe. Officers carried Colt 45 pistols (but trust me they used the rifles too in the Pacific) They used the flame throwers and the large artillery. They used automatic machine guns and this saved many Marines. They also had bayonets and the Bowie Knife. What is the Gun laws in NJ?

The .50 caliber rifle has been banned from the battlefields as one shot could take a head clean off In the USA gun laws can vary from State to State so the list of legal/illegal guns may change from one area to the next Note: The use of 50 caliber sniper rifles and 50 caliber machine guns have not been banned on the battlefields, they have been in use for decades and are currently still in use in today's armed forces. The military currently uses millimeters as per the metric system to describe the size of the rounds used in its' weapons rather than the term Caliber which was based on 1 inch measurement.. So A 7.62mm round as used in the M16 is a .30 caliber round and A 12.7mm is a .50 caliber round such as is used in the M2HB machine gun as is being used in Iraq/Afghanistan today by US armed forces..
