I believe that there is somewhat of a bias when it comes to the military and gender. Most of the decorated soldiers are in fact men, but mainly because they are given the riskiest jobs in the military. Usually the woman do the small tasks, or if the do get in the action, it is very limited. So in short, my answer is Yes.
In a way, yes. It brought war to civilians and attacked them instead of soldiers, but it is believed that the alternative, a military invasion, would have destroyed more and taken more lives for both sides.
