In the United States, Federal OSHA does not cover government employees. They are specifically excluded under the OSHAct. Private employers with ten or more employees, and a few government agencies, are subject to OSHA regulation. Those not in compliance may suffer large fines. OSHA is also responsible for investigating whistle-blower complaints related to nearly 20 different laws, from wage and hour to securities and exchange commission laws.
