Although the temperatures are considered to be mild, there is a high insolation (large quantities of solar radiation) which in turn allows for subtropical vegetation to appear. During winter months the area becomes pretty dry and looks like Southern California; on summer months there is a sizeable amount of rain which combined with the heat from the sun allows this region to have a climate that feels like southern Florida.
