There are many reasons for that decision taken by the traders.
1. In general transporting will be cheap if you take the route via sea than the land. (Ref: An inquiry into the Wealth of Nations by Adam Smith)
2. before European traders discovered the sea route to Asia, they use to take the land route, which passes via the Middle East. And when once the sea routes were discovered the costs of many imported goods fell to one third of its value.
So the European traders started to travel to Asia by the sea.
well the first idea was that they could take the mediteranian but the conal now separating the Middle East to Egypt was not there the silk road was made and that was used for centuries, but then a man named Bartolomeu Dias sailed around the tip of South Africa, passing the Cape of Good Hope and Cape Agulhas from 1487-1488. thean colubus tried to sail across the Atlantic to get to Asia but hit North and South America. hope your satisfide
reduce the time it took to transport goods
The difference of the Spaniard and Portuguese explorers in reaching Asia was on the route they took. The Spaniard took western course after the Portuguese took first voyage from the east.
It was too dangerous, cost too much, caravans were often robbed, the weather impeded travel, and it took too long.
They were looking for spices. YES THEY WERE !
The Europeans came to the New World on accident to find an alternative trade route to Asia, and believed they landed in the Indian subcontinent. The Europeans later took gold and silver from the New World to buy and trade goods with China.
Asia was valuable for its teas and grains yet european countries had to evade hostile countries so the safest way to avoid them but it took many months to travel around africa to just recieve a cargo and then come back

No. He and the other Europeans all ready knew about Asia. That is why he wanted to find a water route to Asia. People had been going over land to India and China for 200 years to bring back goods, but this took a long time and was very dangerous. Marco Polo and his father took 4 years to get to China in 1278, so finding a water route to China/India would pay off for the person who did it and the people who paid for the trip. This is the whole reason why they wanted to find one so they could get rich.
I think the cause was by Christopher Columbus who "accidentally" landed in America and he thought he had found Asia and died thinking that he had reached Asia. This was only the beginning of The Columbian exchange. Soon explorers followed his routes and found America and they eagerly flocked back to Europe and began trading. They took domesticated animals. Like cows, sheep, pigs, goats, horses and chickens. Before this Indians had none of these domesticated animals, but they had turkey. Europeans also took plants, and disease with them. Like measels and smallpox which were only a few of the many disadvantages.
To find a water route to Asia.
Christopher Columbus never found a sea route to Asia. His voyage there was blocked by the American continents, which it is credited with "finding," although he did not realize it at the time.
