The battle of Camden.
On August 15, 1780 an American army, led by General Horatio Gates was badly defeated by the British Army led by Gen. Lord Cornwallis. This defeat opened the way for the British to invade North Carolina.

Many historians have named the Battle at Camden, in South Carolina as the worst defeat by the American rebels. There in 1780, British General Cornwallis routed American militia men of Virginia and North Carolina. American General Gates took the blame and one European, Baron de Kalb, died in the battle. He was one of many Europeans who came to America to help the Revolution.
