Ghana only traded within Africa and Songhai had Muslim influences. The main trade in Ghana was between salt and gold, but the trade in Songhai was more diverse. In Ghana they had to pay tax to the king, but in Songhai they did not. Ghana was ruled by a single king. Songhai had five provinces that were each ruled by a separate governor. I hope that helps :)

The empire of Ghana (ancient Ghana) reached its peak under Tunka Manin. This king had a splendid court where he displayed the vast wealth of the empire. All historians know is from the writings of a Muslim geographer who wrote about Ghana. From these writings, we know that Tunka Manin was the nephew of the previous king, Basi. Tunka Manin surrounded himself with finery and many luxeries. He ruled around 1068 B.C.E.
