The catholic church was never moved to constantinople, emperor constatine kept the church in Rome but moved the capitol to Constantinople. The SPRQ's belief of the church for salvation and emotional comfort kept the eastern empire alive for as long as it did, though it ultimately fell.

Where was the head of the Church located during the middle ages?

Most medieval Christians were Catholic and the head of the Catholic Church was the Pope. Popes were usually located in Rome, but there were times when they were in residence elsewhere. The head of the Eastern Orthodox Church, which was divided from the Roman Catholic Church in 1054, was in Constantinople. There were other church sects but they were much smaller.

What kind of religion like in constantinople?

Until 1054, the year of the Great Schism, there were five patriarchates, or seats of authority, of the Church founded by Christ: Rome, Constantinople, Antioch, Alexandria, and Jerusalem. After the Schism, the Patriarch of Rome became the Pope of the, from that point on, Catholic Church. All the other Patriarchates continued as the Orthodox Christian Church. Constantinople was never Roman Catholic. The Greek Orthodox Christian Church in Constantinople/Istanbul is currently under attack by the Muslim Turkish government. The government will not allow an Orthodox Christian seminary to be built, and will not allow Orthodox priests to come from other countries. None of us know exactly what it was like back in 1054. edit: And the Orthodox Church does *not* recognize the Pope as anything but the head of the Catholic Church.

What sect of what church the Pope is head of.?

The pope is the head of the Catholic Church. There is only one Catholic Church and it is not a sect. To be a Catholic Church, a church must be in union with the pope. If they are not in union with the pope, they are not Catholic.

Pope Benedict is head of the Catholic Church. However he is also head of all of the other Rites/Churches which are in Union with Rome (The Uniates). So he is head of the following "Churches": Armenian Catholic Church Byzantine Catholic Church Chaldean Catholic Church (East Syrian) Coptic Catholic Church Ethiopian Catholic Church Maronite Church Melkite Catholic Church Roman Catholic Church Romanian Catholic Church Russian Catholic Church Ruthenian Catholic Church Syro-Malabar Catholic Church Ukrania Catholic Church West Syrian Catholic Church Each of these have different "Rites" or ceremonies which are carried out.
