Originally called Buckingham House, the building was a large house built for the Duke of Buckingham in 1705.
It was acquired by King George III in 1761 as a private residence for Queen Charlotte, and called The Queen's House.

Queen Victoria was the first monarch to use Buckingham Palace as an official residence. She moved into the palace in 1837 CE.
