It is the present Queen, Elizabeth II. Prince Charles has gone on record as saying he wants to be defender of faiths. The title stems from the time of King Henry VIII.
Fidei defensor - Defender of the faith
Henry the 8th was declared 'defender of the faith' in the year of 1533.
Yes, he was by pope Leo x. when he wrote a book about his catholicism faith. He was so impressed he gave him the title 'defender of faith'.
Defender of the Faith is one of Queen Elizabeth's titles, which means she will protect the British religious system and church.
Yes the Pope gave Henry the title defender of faith...:) Don't know why though....:) Hope I helped....:)

Pope Leo X
Christian. Church of England. His grandmother is the 'Defender of the Faith'.
AnswerOnly a few months ago, Prince Charles requested that, when he becomes king, he not be titled "Defender of the Faith", but rather "Defender of the Faiths", in order to be more inclusive. When that was found unacceptable, he asked to be considered as "Defender of Faith" - once again more inclusive, but not so as to give other religions equal rights. The very wish to have the title reconsidered shows that it is very much alive as a tradition in British society.
