Walewale is the district capital of the West Mamprusi District in the Northern Region of Ghana. It is 68 miles from Tamale the Regional Capital. It is one of the fastest growing towns in Ghana. It has a cyclical market days which occurs every four days. Walewale is a vibrant town with rich culture of mainly Mamprusis, Kasenas, Kusasis and Tampulinsis. The town is of a sociological interest in terms of the ethnic mix. It has about 60 percent Muslims and some 20 percent Christians the remaining twenty percent belong to different religious beliefs. Walewale is traditionally not a typical Mamprusi town as it is of less political significance as Wungu is the traditional capital of the the West Mamprusi district.
