The name Hoste Island is named after Captain Sir William Hoste who was one of Nelson's captains around the time of the battle of the Adriatic - just why this Island was named after him I don't know
Hoste Island has it's name from William Hoste who at one time was Nelson's cabin boy and later on in his navy career went on to travel the Americas and discovered this island. I've only found this out recently because I I've been learning about my family tree and Hoste is my great great great grandfather (i think that's right!) Hope that is helpful, it's not very detailed as I don't know very much. Rebecca Hetherington
