Most research stations in Antarctica are located where water allows access by ship during the summer season. Notable exceptions are the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station and Vostok. Pole is serviced by USA military aircraft; Vostok is serviced by cross-country motor vehicles from the Mirny Station, which is near water. Vostok has also been serviced by USA military aircraft.
As well, summer field camps are located far inland, and are serviced by helicopter.

Antarctica is an international territory and has not countries. Several existing countries have temporary or permanent scientific bases there, but no one exercises sovereign rights there.

Many people have explored Antarctica and lots of the major countries have research and meteorological bases there.
Each research station bases its time clocks in the country that supports the station. There is no standard time in Antarctica.
Antarctica is home only to scientists, and for short periods of time. These scientists live in the "bases" developed by their countries.
