You could always try staying in a homestay. I did it a few years ago it was pretty good and much cheaper than staying in a hostel/residence etc. I stayed with www.londonhomestays.com and studied at St Giles in Central London. My course included a 6-week internship and I stayed the whole time with one family. They were really nice and I still email them now and again.
With a friend. Hotels are very expensive.
London is an expensive city to visit as a tourist so you need to be quite well off to be able to make the most of your stay.
A three day stay in London including flight would be between 1600-2500 per person depending on hotel and flight locations. London is a very charming city have fun!

Too late, it's already February 2013.
Londons an expensive city for pretty much everyone, even the locals. It may be cheaper to stay just outside of London, where its much cheaper and then travel in by train or tube as transport links to London are pretty good. There are always loads of free events and exhibitions going on around London such as the Tate which you can always research. Food is generally a bit more expensive in London but not always and its normally good. Anyway, London is always well worth a visit, jut make sure to bring an umbrella!!

Paris is cheap then London. If you are thinking to travel Paris then you must stay in Apartments instead of hotels. Because hotels in Paris are so costly.
