The design of the present Oklahoma state flag was adopted in 1925. It highlights the cultural diversity of the state by prominently featuring Native American symbols in the design.
The current flag of the US State of Oklahoma, which consists of an Osage Nation buffalo-skin shield with eagle feathers, on a blue field, was designed as part of a contest in 1924, after the original flag, a white star on a red field, was rejected as red was a symbol of communism. The flag itself was adopted on April 2, 1925, without the word Oklahoma in the bottom half of the flag. The state's name was added in 1941.
