Its construction lasted from April 2, 1904 until September 29, 1934. It was initially commissioned by Mexican president Profirio Diaz to the Italian architect Adamo Boari. All construction efforts were stopped from 1913 until 1932 due to the Mexican Revolution (1910-1921). After the conflict subsided, Mexican architect Federico Mariscal retook the project, finishing it in less than 2 years.
