Just as Santa Claus visits the children on Christmas Eve and leaves gifts for them to unwrap, there is a tradition in Mexico where the Three Wise Men or Magi leave gifts for the children. This tradition is known as the Santos Reyes (literally, the Three Wise Men) and is also a date when many Mexicans exchange presents. It is usually done on January 6th of each year.

In the Magi, the Church sees the pagan kingdoms as recognizing the new born Messiah as God come to the world as its king.
The Gospel of Matthew contains the story of the Magi visiting Jesus. In this account, the Magi, guided by a star, come to worship the newborn Jesus and offer gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
The Magi are traditionally believed to have come from the East, possibly from regions like Persia or Babylon. They followed a star to Bethlehem to visit the baby Jesus.
